San Antonio, TX: 2nd Annual Research Collective Retreat

Our academic partners at UT San Antonio hosted three of our dementia research project councils ( South Texas Council, Arab Council & African American Council) for a full day annual research retreat including a very productive River of Life workshop. This activity has helped us look ahead and connect our shared cross-cultural struggles for equitable dementia care and each council shared it with all members on 09/18/2026 at the School of Nursing.

Each member was also given a chance to do junk mapping activity and one was selected from each council to explain about their map.

All guests were given an orange mug as a token of memory from the Collective Care Lab.

San Antonio, TX: Welcoming Dinner for our South Texas council members

The Arab Community Council hosted a welcoming dinner the night before the Annual Research Retreat with all home made dishes for our community partners who travelled from South Texas to attend the Annual Retreat , on 09/17/2026 at the School of Nursing.

For the second time, we have successfully engaged our group of Arab American community in conversations about dementia, research, and advocacy, the program included icebreaker activity, poetry, food and interactive yet very interesting breakout group discussions with a chance to express their ideas & opinions with everyone.

San Antonio, TX ; The Janna Lesser Community Engagement Hero Award for Outstanding Community Health Improvement Project award ( November 2025) during 2025 IIMS Community Engagement Symposium

The Community Council for Arab Dementia Research was selected as the 2025 recipient of the Janna Lesser Community Engagement Hero Award for Outstanding Community Health Improvement Project. This award recognizes community partners for their successes in promoting health through research. The Council partners with Dr. Sara Masoud and her team to improve representation of Arab Americans in dementia research.
